The Ford GT has a storied history, but can the blue brand’s resident supercar measure up to one of our own? Ford was able to take down Ferrari all those years ago, but what about McLaren? We thought we’d find out by pitting the 2020 McLaren 720S, which belongs to the Super Series line of vehicles, against it in a side by side comparison. How do the two vehicles compare to one another? Can the Ford GT measure up?

As you can see from the table above, the battle is certainly a close one – much closer than die hard McLaren enthusiasts might have expected. We knew the Ford GT would put up a valiant effort, but in the end the McLaren 720S advantages outweigh those of the Ford GT in our opinion. Let’s go through the table row by row to assess.
In the first two rows we looked at straight up power output ratings, first horsepower and then torque. In terms of the latter, the 720S smokes the GT by generating an extra 50 horsepower, but the difference in torque isn’t nearly as wide. The 720S only generates an extra 18 pound-feet in that regard, which is still a leg up.
The only solace for the Ford GT is that its claimed top speed is four miles per hour higher than that of the 720S. Even still, the fourth row shows that it’s not quite as quick off the line, thought it’s pretty darn close, trailing by only a tenth of a second behind the impressive 2.9 seconds of the McLaren 720S.
