In honor of the iconic Can-Am race cars that took the racetrack world by storm back in 1966, McLaren Special Operations has built a limited series of vehicles called the 650S Can-Am Spider. Those original race cars instilled both fear and awe, as there were no restrictions on things like the engine or vehicle weight. Engineers could do practically anything they wanted, which led to some incredibly powerful, lightweight, aerodynamic vehicles. The Canadian American Challenge Cup has and likely always will be one of the most celebrate categories in the history of motorsports, but now we here at McLaren Chicago, IL, are stoked at the introduction of the McLaren 650S Can-Am Spider.
One of the newest iterations from MSO, this vehicle will be limited to just 50 units across the entire globe. That will make it a truly unique and exclusive vehicle, which in itself is a way to pay homage to those classic Can-Am race cars. Let’s take a look at some of the different specifications and features that this incredibly limited vehicle will have to offer. For starters, the design features an exterior pain inspired by those classic vehicles, a unique bodywork made from carbon fiber and an interior made from Nappa leather and Alcantara.
Beneath the hood of this limited-edition McLaren vehicle rests a 3.8L twin-turbo V8 engine capable of generating 641 horsepower alongside 500 pound-feet of torque. That kind of power enables this beast to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds, or from 0-100 mph in 5.8 s. It can run the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at an average speed of 138 miles per hour, then press onto a maximum speed of 204 mph. Needless to say, it’s an incredible machine.
We’ve only scratched the surface of what the new McLaren 650S Can-Am Spider will have to offer. Feel free to give us a call here at the sales desk with any questions that you might have.
