The McLaren 720S replaced the 650S as the second all-new car in the McLaren Super Series, and it has been making waves ever since. The incredible sports car is available as a 2-door coupe or, as we’re going to look at today, a 2-door retractable hard-top convertible known as the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider. We really wanted to dig into the model and see how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors, so we pit the 720S Spider against the 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Spider.

It doesn’t take long to realize just how similar these two vehicles are to one another after looking through the table up above. Each sports car offers an incredible amount of power and lightning-quick performance, but let’s dive in and dig through the numbers to show you just how they differ. We started with the power ratings in the top half of the table, first with horsepower then torque. For the former, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider gets the nod, but only by 4 horsepower. The latter difference is even smaller, as the 720S Spider generates an extra pound-foot of torque.
Even still, the McLaren 720S Spider does pull out an advantage in top speed, passing the 488 Pista Spider up by a single mile per hour as well. Despite this max speed difference, though, each sports car is capable of getting from 0-60 miles per hour in the same amount of time, an incredibly fast-paced 2.9 seconds. Blink and you miss it.
