The McLaren 570S is a sports car that has been on the lineup and in production since 2015, and in those few years it has had several variants introduced. In the summer of 2018, the McLaren introduced the top-of-the-line variant for the sports series called the 600LT, which was followed in January of 2019 by a convertible variant called the 600LT Spider. We wanted to highlight just how incredible this vehicle is while also showcasing how it measures up to one of its segment competitors, so we thought we’d pit the 2020 McLaren 600LT Spider against the upcoming 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Convertible.

2021 Jaguar F-Type R Convertible |
---|---|---|
592 HP | Horsepower | 575 HP |
457 lb-ft. | Torque | 516 lb-ft. |
201 mph | Top Speed | 186 mph |
2.9 seconds | 0-62 miles per hour | 3.5 seconds |
The table up above highlights just how similar these two sports car convertibles are to one another, but also shows that each has its clear advantage(s). We decided to stick to highlighting power and performance specifications in the table, as those are without a doubt the most important – and interesting – things to consider when shopping for a sports car like either of these.
In the first two rows, we highlighted the vehicles’ power ratings. When it comes to horsepower, the McLaren 600LT Spider generates 17 HP more than the Jaguar F-Type R Convertible. That’s not a huge advantage, but it is there nonetheless. The F-Type R Convertible does fire back in the second row by offering an extra 59 pound-feet of torque more than the 600LT Spider.
In the latter half of the table we turned instead to performance numbers, where the McLaren convertible shows its superiority. Achieving a top speed 15 miles per hour greater than the Jaguar and a 0-62 miles per hour time 0.6 seconds faster, the McLaren is the clear winner here.
