This can be done while on the move — up to speeds of 25 mph. The technology for the 570S Spider’s retractable hardtop was first utilized in the McLaren 650S Spider and McLaren 675LT Spider. Along with the 570S Spider, it has since been expanded to the McLaren 600LT Spider and 720S Spider.

The retractable hardtop of the 570 Spider is electronically operated, with the driver only needing to use one basic control function. As the retractable hardtop folds back, the tonneau cover automatically raises. The retractable hardtop then seamlessly slides underneath it. The retractable hardtop also features a glazed wind deflector, which can also be electronically lowered or closed.
McLaren designed the retractable hardtop with high-level durability in mind, with it able to withstand severe weather conditions. It also has a lightweight carbon-fiber composition, with it adding only 101 pounds in weight over the 570S Coupe.
