What does Lamborghini mean in English?

Lamborghini Name Definition, Meaning and Origins

As a unique Italian brand of supercars, Lamborghini means many things to many people. How did the founders of Lamborghini choose this unique name? What does the word “Lamborghini” actually mean?

The word “Lamborghini” is simply a name, and as such, does not have any deeper meaning. Specifically, it’s the surname of a Ferruccio Lamborghini, who founded the company in 1963. He then decided to use his own name for the name of the company. We’re not complaining; it’s a pretty cool sounding word.

As you may have guessed from the sound, Lamborghini is an Italian name.

Who was Ferruccio Lamborghini?

Ferruccio Lamborghini was born into a family of grape farmers, but had an irrepressible knack for mechanics. This led him to enter the tractor business, founding a company called Lamborghini Trattori in 1948. This company is still around to the present day and continues to produce tractors in Italy.

Lamborghini wasn’t satiated with the tractor business alone, however, and so in 1959, he opened up an oil burner factory with the name Lamborghini Bruciatori. This factory later moved on to building air conditioners.

In 1963, Ferruccio finally created Automobili Lamborghini, which grew into the brand we know and love.

Ferruccio founded one more company after the Autombili endeavor; it was called Lamborghini Oleodinamica. By the late 1970s, however, he’d sold off many of his interests and retired to his estate to pursue winemaking.
